CAPED Student Scholarships
CAPED Student Scholarships
CAPED Student Scholarships are awarded to students with disabilities who are pursuing post-secondary education in the state of California. Disabilities include any verified physical, mental, or learning disability that substantially limits one or more major life activities, as defined in the ADA Amendments Act of 2008.
Students must be enrolled in an accredited California state university, community college, or private college. Undergraduate students must have completed at least six semester or eight quarter units before applying and must have a grade point average of 2.5 or above. Graduate students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above and have completed at least three semester or four quarter units before applying. A total of 11 students will be awarded scholarships from the California Association For Postsecondary Education and Disability (CAPED). Some scholarships are for disabled students attending four-year colleges only, while others include community college attendance. Each scholarship has its own unique focus which can include a particular disability, such as blindness or visual impairment, or a specific career focus.
The California Association For Postsecondary Education and Disability was formed in 1975 as the first member-based, non-profit professional organization of post secondary educators of students with disabilities in the nation. The organization works with public and private higher education institutions to finance education programs and services for students with disabilities.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in SEPTEMBER of each year, and the award amount is usually $1,000 - $1,500.
