Financial need is the common criteria that bind all of the grants awarded through the George Snow Scholarship Fund. We also review all special circumstances. Anne Trabue Scholarship

Anne Trabue, affectionately known as the mother of women's golf in Southern California, was a noted journalist who wrote extensively about golf in Southern California in the first half of the 20th century. Her contemporaries described her as a woman of gracious charm, intelligent foresight and great patience. She was the driving force behind the organization of the Women's Southern California Golf Association. It was her firm but gentle hand that guided the associations first steps. She served as WSCGAs first President from 1922-1928 and again from 1937-38. She was appointed as Advisor to the Board of the WSCGA for life, in which post she gave of her knowledge and experience until her death in November of 1957. She also received a life membership in the Los Angeles Country Club for her outstanding interest and activity in the promotion of women's golf. In 1954, WSCGA honored Anne Trabue by creating a trophy known as the Anne Trabue Trophy. The WSCGA Foundation again honors the legacy of Anne Trabue by creating a scholarship to assist a student who knows both the joy of writing and golf. The Abe Schechter Graduate Scholarship

Abe Schechter, a true pioneer of radio news, became the first vice president of news for NBC. He began his career in newspapers, then moved to radio. During World War II, he became senior public relations officer for General MacArthur. He eventually returned to NBC where he helped create the Today show. From there, he became part owner of the Mutual Broadcasting System. In the 1960s Schechter founded a PR firm that he and his business partner, former RTDNF Trustee George Glazer, subsequently sold to Hill & Knowlton. Schechter and his wife died in a car accident in 1989, and this $2,000 scholarship was established in his memory. JEA National High School Journalist of the Year Sister Rita Jeanne Scholarships, named for JEA's long-time treasurer, recognize some of the top high school journalists in the country. The contest begins at the state level. Winning portfolios from the state High School Journalist of the Year competitions are sent to the national level. Portfolios are judged and winners announced at the spring JEA/NSPA national convention. The Ed Bradley Scholarship Ed Bradley, 60 Minutes correspondent at CBS News, was once a teacher and made a switch to journalism. The Carole Simpson Scholarship Carole Simpson, ABC news senior correspondent, created this annual $2,000 award to encourage and help minority students overcome hurdles along their career path. Besides honoring those with talent, Carole is strict about her applicants meeting requirements in tenacity, determination and ambition to excel. The Pete Wilson Journalism Scholarship In memory of the late news anchor, Pete Wilson, ABC7, KGO-TV established The Pete Wilson Journalism Scholarship. The endowment will provide an annual $2,000 scholarship to students from the San Francisco Bay area pursuing a journalism undergraduate or graduate degree. Presidents Scholarships Two $1,000 awards given in honor of former RTDNA Presidents Theodore Koop, Bruce Dennis, James McCulla, John Salisbury, Bruce Palmer, Dick Cheverton, Jim Byron, Ben Chatfield and John Hogan. Only currently enrolled college sophomores, juniors and seniors in good standing are eligible to apply. The Lou and Carole Prato Sports Reporting Scholarship Lou Prato was RTDNA treasurer from 1981 to 2001 and served as secretary of RTDNF's Board of Trustees until 2006. Prato's friends and colleagues have endowed an RTDNF scholarship in honor of Lou and his wife, Carole. The scholarship will provide a $1,000 tuition grant to a deserving student who is planning a career as a sports reporter in television or radio. Applicants should have strong writing skills. The George Foreman Tribute to Lyndon B. Johnson Scholarship George Foreman, television commentator and former heavyweight champion, created this $6,000 annual scholarship to honor Lyndon B. Johnson. It was developed for a broadcast journalism student at the University of Texas-Austin. The Mike Reynolds Journalism Scholarship Mike Reynolds, who died in 1988 of a brain tumor at age 45, was assignment editor and then managing editor at KCCI-TV in Des Moines, IA. Trustees of the fund to honor his memory require applicants for this award to be enrolled in journalism school and have good writing ability, excellent grades, a dedication to the news business, strong interest in pursuing a career in electronic journalism and a demonstrated need for financial assistance. Applicants should list media-related jobs held and contributions made to funding their own education. Applicants must mail a copy of their FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR) to RTDNA as a part of the application. The recipient of the Mike Reynolds Journalism Scholarship will receive $1,000.
