KATU Thomas R. Dargan Minority Scholarship
In the tradition of Thomas R. Dargan, dedicated and lifelong broadcaster, this scholarship is intended to encourage and assist minority students to complete their education in broadcasting or communications.
Eligibility
- Applicant must be a minority citizen of the United States. Minority is defined as Native American, Black, Hispanic or Asian.
- Applicant must be enrolled in the first, second or third year of a broadcast or communications curriculum at a four-year college or university or an accredited community college in Oregon or Washington, or as a permanent resident of Oregon or Washington attending an out-of-state institution.
- Community college students must be enrolled in a broadcast curriculum which is transferable to a four-year baccalaureatedegree.
- Applicant must have a minimum 3.00 GPA.
Scholarship recipients may reapply for a renewal at the end of the first year of receiving the scholarship, but must have maintained at least a 3.00 GPA

The George Snow Scholarship Fund: For My Florida High School Seniors
Financial need is the common criteria that bind all of the grants awarded through the George Snow Scholarship Fund. We also review all special circumstances.
To qualify for The George Snow Scholarship Fund, applicants must:
- Be a graduate of a Palm Beach County or North Broward County High School
- Show financial need
- Must be active in their school and community have strong educational and career goals and are self motivated
Most scholarships are award to graduating seniors going into their first year of college. Students applying for these scholarships can attend any accredited college, university or vocational/technical school anywhere in the country and can major in any subject. Students are eligible for these scholarships if they are graduating from a Palm Beach County high school or graduating from either Pompano High School or Blanche Ely High School in Broward County, Florida.
In addition the Fund has specific scholarships for students who meet the above criteria who are pursuing a career in the field of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, engineering, visual/ performing arts, photojournalism or culinary arts - OR - are at least 1/8 Italian, a graduate of Limestone Creek Elementary, planning to attend a vocational or technical school, or an orphan.
Additional scholarships are available through the Scholarship Fund to single parents or students that meet other criteria such as considering themselves a feminist and wishing to apply for the Feminist Scholarship Program.

American Copy Editors Society Scholarship: Awesome Scholarship For Journalist!!!!!
College juniors, seniors and graduate students who have demonstrated an interest in and aptitude for copy editing have until Nov. 15 to apply for several scholarships awarded each year ny the ACES Education Fund, an affiliate of the American Copy Editors Society.

Dr. Alma Adams Scholarship
As an expression of gratitude to Dr. Alma S. Adams for giving six years of dedicated service and leadership on its Board of Directors, the American Legacy Foundation has established a scholarship fund in her honor. The Dr. Alma S. SCPA Foundation Summer Internships
All students preparing for a career in the newspaper industry who will have completed their sophomore year by the end of the upcoming spring semester. Scholarship winners may study at any four-year South Carolina college approved by the Foundation.
Selection of the scholarship winners is based on commitment to a newspaper career, participation in newspaper activities in college, recommendations of faculty members, and grades. Financial need will also be a factor in awarding the scholarships.

Anne Trabue Scholarship
Anne Trabue, affectionately known as the mother of women's golf in Southern California, was a noted journalist who wrote extensively about golf in Southern California in the first half of the 20th century. Her contemporaries described her as a woman of gracious charm, intelligent foresight and great patience. She was the driving force behind the organization of the Women's Southern California Golf Association. It was her firm but gentle hand that guided the associations first steps. She served as WSCGAs first President from 1922-1928 and again from 1937-38.
She was appointed as Advisor to the Board of the WSCGA for life, in which post she gave of her knowledge and experience until her death in November of 1957. She also received a life membership in the Los Angeles Country Club for her outstanding interest and activity in the promotion of women's golf.
In 1954, WSCGA honored Anne Trabue by creating a trophy known as the Anne Trabue Trophy. The WSCGA Foundation again honors the legacy of Anne Trabue by creating a scholarship to assist a student who knows both the joy of writing and golf. The student should desire pursue a career in sports print or broadcast journalism.

The Abe Schechter Graduate Scholarship
Abe Schechter, a true pioneer of radio news, became the first vice president of news for NBC. He began his career in newspapers, then moved to radio. During World War II, he became senior public relations officer for General MacArthur. He eventually returned to NBC where he helped create the Today show. From there, he became part owner of the Mutual Broadcasting System. In the 1960s Schechter founded a PR firm that he and his business partner, former RTDNF Trustee George Glazer, subsequently sold to Hill & Knowlton. Schechter and his wife died in a car accident in 1989, and this $2,000 scholarship was established in his memory.

JEA National High School Journalist of the Year!!! Seniors This Scholarship is For You!
JEA National High School Journalist of the Year
Sister Rita Jeanne Scholarships, named for JEA's long-time treasurer, recognize some of the top high school journalists in the country. The contest begins at the state level. Winning portfolios from the state High School Journalist of the Year competitions are sent to the national level. Portfolios are judged and winners announced at the spring JEA/NSPA national convention.
Applicants must be a graduating high school senior; be planning to study journalism or mass communications in college and to pursue a journalism career; have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale; have participated in high school journalism for at least two years; submit a portfolio; be a state Journalist of the Year winner and a student of a JEA member adviser.
The National High School Journalist of the Year receives a $5,000 scholarship; four runners-up each receive a $2,000 scholarship. More detailed information, an application and a portfolio checklist are on the JEA Web site.

Scholarships for Undergraduate Students
All scholarships are open to enrolled students (freshmen excluded) who are pursuing careers in radio and television news. Winners also receive an expense-paid trip to the RTDNA/SPJ National Conference. Candidates must be a full-time college student whose career objective is electronic journalism and have at least one full year of college remaining. To receive an award, winners must be officially enrolled in college and be in good standing. Scholarships are paid in semi-annual installments for one year of study.

The Ed Bradley Scholarship
Ed Bradley, 60 Minutes correspondent at CBS News, was once a teacher and made a switch to journalism. Bradley spoke of introducing deserving minority students to the communications career field and endowed this $10,000 annual award under the banner of RTDNF.
The Carole Simpson Scholarship
Carole Simpson, ABC news senior correspondent, created this annual $2,000 award to encourage and help minority students overcome hurdles along their career path. Besides honoring those with talent, Carole is strict about her applicants meeting requirements in tenacity, determination and ambition to excel.
The Pete Wilson Journalism Scholarship
In memory of the late news anchor, Pete Wilson, ABC7, KGO-TV established The Pete Wilson Journalism Scholarship. The endowment will provide an annual $2,000 scholarship to students from the San Francisco Bay area pursuing a journalism undergraduate or graduate degree.
Presidents Scholarships
Two $1,000 awards given in honor of former RTDNA Presidents Theodore Koop, Bruce Dennis, James McCulla, John Salisbury, Bruce Palmer, Dick Cheverton, Jim Byron, Ben Chatfield and John Hogan. Only currently enrolled college sophomores, juniors and seniors in good standing are eligible to apply.
The Lou and Carole Prato Sports Reporting Scholarship
Lou Prato was RTDNA treasurer from 1981 to 2001 and served as secretary of RTDNF's Board of Trustees until 2006. Prato's friends and colleagues have endowed an RTDNF scholarship in honor of Lou and his wife, Carole. The scholarship will provide a $1,000 tuition grant to a deserving student who is planning a career as a sports reporter in television or radio. Applicants should have strong writing skills.
The George Foreman Tribute to Lyndon B. Johnson Scholarship
George Foreman, television commentator and former heavyweight champion, created this $6,000 annual scholarship to honor Lyndon B. Johnson. It was developed for a broadcast journalism student at the University of Texas-Austin.
The Mike Reynolds Journalism Scholarship
Mike Reynolds, who died in 1988 of a brain tumor at age 45, was assignment editor and then managing editor at KCCI-TV in Des Moines, IA. Trustees of the fund to honor his memory require applicants for this award to be enrolled in journalism school and have good writing ability, excellent grades, a dedication to the news business, strong interest in pursuing a career in electronic journalism and a demonstrated need for financial assistance. Applicants should list media-related jobs held and contributions made to funding their own education. Applicants must mail a copy of their FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR) to RTDNA as a part of the application. The recipient of the Mike Reynolds Journalism Scholarship will receive $1,000.

Scholarship Opportunity For High School Students
George Foreman is a boxing champion, Olympic gold medal winner and celebrated pitchman. As a young man, he was inspired by President Lyndon Johnson and by RTDNF founder Barney Oldfield. In his autobiography "By George," Foreman credits LBJ's Job Corps program for rescuing him "from the gutter." He also thanks Barney Oldfield "for a lifetime of friendship, devotion, counsel, and wisdom. The world would be a far better place if everyone were lucky enough to have a friend like you."
The George Foreman Tribute to Lyndon Baines Johnson scholarship is a $6,000 award given to a journalism student from the University of Texas at Austin.

Uncut Casting Services, an extras booking service, is seeking a part-time employee that will most likely eventually turn into full-time position.

The biennial Nestlé Very Best in Youth program was created to spotlight the best in youth leadership by identifying and honoring teenagers in the United States whose community service efforts are making a profound difference in the lives of others.
Nestlé seeks to help young people who want to make a difference realize their dreams by donating $1,000 in the name of each winner to the charity of his or her choice. Nestlé also awards the winner a trip to Los Angeles, California, for the Very Best in Youth awards ceremony. The trip includes round trip air travel and hotel accommodations for three nights for the winner and a parent or guardian as well as spending money. In 2011, the program made awards to twenty-three young people.
Contestants must be between 14 and 18 years of age and be legal residents of the fifty United States and the District of Columbia. Contestants must demonstrate good citizenship, a strong academic record, and be able to demonstrate how they have made a special contribution to their school, church, or community.

Seeking a talented Director or DP
Seeking a talented director or DP who is willing
to work with a dedicated group of professional filmmakers on an ULTRA-LOW
budget SAG-AFTRA indie feature film. Most of the team is receiving deferred
pay but very committed to the project. Seeking a talented director or DP
who has the time to dedicate a month of pre-production to prepare thoroughly
for a 10-DAY SHOOT in October. The shoot is 5 consecutive days, 1 day off
and then another 5 days. The story is a contemporary urban drama with a
Christian faith-based component, so one should be comfortable with such
material. The script is 86 pages and there are quite a few locations so
director/DP needs to be very thorough in the pre-production so team can
successfully get through a 10-day shoot with as few glitches as possible.
Again, this is an ultra-low budget film but there is some pay plus back-end
points. MUST RESIDE IN L.A.

The CalArts School of FIlm/Video is looking for a Consultant for an immediate contract to address film producing and safety concerns in the school's four programs of study (live action film & video, film directing, character animation and experimental animation).
We are looking to hire the consultant right away, and though this is not a permanent position, the consultant will be instrumental in developing plans for a permanent producing and safety manager. We are developing an advisory structure for student projects that will eventually address a broad range of producing concerns, but to begin, the consultant would design and implement safety goals and training for students, staff and faculty, as well propose long-range plans for the permanent position.
We want to find just the right person for the job, someone with a strong production background (at least 3 as producer, line-producer, UPM, etc) who also has a deep affinity for independent, artistic filmmaking.
