David Geffen Medical Scholarships
David Geffen Medical Scholarships offers full tuition scholarships to medical students entering the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. The scholarship pays for 100 percent for tuition, room and board, books and supplies, plus a living stipend.
This is a merit-based scholarship for outstanding students pursuing careers in the medical field. Students both within the U.S. and international may apply. All students entering the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA are automatically considered for the scholarship. A total of up to 33 scholarships will be awarded. The scholarships will continue through four years of college as long as the student remains in good standing.
The scholarship is funded by David Geffen, a record and film producer who, with Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg, created DreamWorks. He is also a philanthropist after whom the medical school was named. Mr. Geffen created the scholarship to help students pursue their dreams of going to medical school.
The scholarship is open to academically strong students pursuing careers in clinical practice, teaching, research and public service. The scholarship not only provides them financial assistance to attend medical school but gives them the freedom to pursue their careers without a large economic burden.
The deadline for this scholarship VARIES each year, and the award amount VARIES.

ASSIGNMENT: Our new Holy Father, Pope Francis, has inspired us—through words and deeds—to follow Jesus in serving the poor. Write an essay explaining what it means to serve the poor and how you see it happening—or not happening—in our world. Give examples from your own life or the lives of people you know or have heard about. Examples must be true.

Foot Locker Scholar Athletes Program
The Foot Locker Scholar Athletes program gives high school students who are active it sports and in their communities, as well as outstanding students, an opportunity to win a $20,000 college scholarship. Students must be planning to attend a four-year college.
Eligibility requirements include a grade point average of 3.0 or above, U.S. citizenship, and active in either high school, intramural or community sports. Winning students may choose any accredited four-year college or university to attend.
Applicants will be required to answer two essay questions on what they have learned from their involvement in sports and how sports has given them leadership skills. In addition, one recommendation from a teacher, coach or other mentor is required.
The scholarship is sponsored by the Foot Locker Foundation, a non-profit organization of Foot Locker, Inc., that provides educational opportunities for students all over the world. Foot Locker, Inc. is a world-wide producer of athletic shoes and clothing with 3,335 stores in 23 countries.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in DECEMBER of each year, and the award amount is usually $20,000.

The Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the 2014 competition.
The Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the 2014 competition.
• Any high school senior who is a citizen of the United States is eligible to apply.
• Applicants need not be related to a member of the Elks.
• College students are not eligible to apply.
• Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are signed; permanent legal resident status does not qualify.
• Male and female students compete separately.
Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. The Most Valuable Student scholarship deadline is December 6, 2013. Applications must be submitted to the Elks Lodge closest to the student's permanent U.S. address.
Applications must advance through local, district and state competitions to reach national judging. The weekend of April 25 to 27, 2014, the 20 top finalists will participate in a Leadership Weekend in Chicago during which they’ll interview with the national judges. These 20 finalists will be vying for two first-place awards of $50,000; two second-place awards of $40,000; and two third-place awards of $30,000. The remaining 14 finalists will receive awards of $20,000. The 480 runners-up will receive fifth-place scholarships of $4,000.
The Chicago office of the Elks National Foundation will announce the 500 national winners, and notify them in writing, by late April 2014. (Many local Lodges, districts and state Elks associations award their own scholarships through this program. These scholarships are not to be confused with the 500 Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarships.)
All scholarships are in the form of certificates of award conditional upon the full-time enrollment of the winner in an accredited U.S. college or university.
Ranging from $1,000 per year to $12,500 per year, Most Valuable Student scholarships are for students pursuing a four-year degree, on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 semester hours), in a U.S. college or university.
