2013 Student Essay Contest

ASSIGNMENT: Our new Holy Father, Pope Francis, has inspired us—through words and deeds—to follow Jesus in serving the poor. Write an essay explaining what it means to serve the poor and how you see it happening—or not happening—in our world. Give examples from your own life or the lives of people you know or have heard about. Examples must be true. RULES: Students in grades 6–8 (Division I) and grades 9–12 (Division II) qualify. Entries must be written in English. Only one entry per student. Please specify the division to which the entry is being submitted. Children of Maryknoll employees, Associates and Affiliates are not eligible. LENGTH: 500–750 words. Pages should be typed and double-spaced or neatly handwritten in ink and stapled. Note: Spelling and grammar count. DEADLINE: Entries must be postmarked no later than Friday, Nov. 15, 2013. All entries become the property of Maryknoll and cannot be returned.
